ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Tuesday reassured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that the $6 billion that it got from Saudi Arabia was a ‘one-time thing’ and that it ‘did not mean anything’.
Sources confirmed that Pakistan vowed to undertake a full-fledged effort for maximum recovery of their damaged relationship, which Pakistan took complete responsibility for, and confessed it was willing to do anything to fix it.
“I was thinking of you all the time when we were doing it,” Pakistan told IMF, referring to the dealings with Saudi Arabia over the terms of the bailout, which Islamabad insisted was a “thing of the past now”.
When asked about rumours of doing the same with China earlier this month, Pakistan dismissed it as ‘Page 3 gossip’.
“We even said it on record that it was China who didn’t want the details to be shared with anyone else. Talk about blowing someone off!” Pakistan added.
Sources privy to the meeting told The Dependent that the two sides agreed on a comprehensive reforms arrangement, with the visiting delegation looking forward to measures to repair the damaged relationship.
Sources further added that IMF was adamant that the new adjustment should be finalised first for stabilisation to become the basis for success of the reformed relationship over a longer period.
“Come on baby, one last chance for old times’ sake,” Pakistan was seen telling IMF at press time.
