DUBAI – After being declared an absconder in the Benazir Bhutto murder case Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf has renewed his name in the Entry Control List (ECL) to Pakistan, The Dependent has learnt.
Musharraf, who had already put his name on the ECL after leaving Pakistan for Dubai in March last year, renewed it ‘for life’, it has been reliably learnt.
“That’s the best thing about the Entry Control List, one has the choice to put one’s name on it, without needing anyone’s approval,” says a former Army Chief of Pakistan wishing anonymity. “So you can decide when to enter, it at all. It’s a decision we have to regularly take once we reach the pinnacle of our profession.”
“We’ll make sure there is proper coverage given to this wise decision,” says a senior Bol journalist and analyst, speaking off the record. “Most of those in our field in Pakistan easily cooperate in this regard,” he added.
The chairman of one of the ‘Muslim League’ political parties reaffirms that name in the ECL does not translate into electoral irrelevance at all.
