Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan urged the nation to remember, during its celebrations of the Champions Trophy, 2017, that the nation also won the ICC World Cup of 1992.
“Don’t get me wrong,” he said, speaking at an emergency press conference at Bani Gala. “It was a pretty decent performance that Sarfraz and his boys showed in this trophy, but we also won that World Cup in 1992.”
“Winning the Champions Trophy is a pretty big deal and I congratulate the nation for that,” he continued. “Is winning the the ICC World Cup a bigger deal, you ask? Well, yes, but why even bring that up?”
“Now, I want the nation to enjoy the moment and stop asking me to hold emergency press conferences relating to what is, by all objective standards, the greatest moment in Pakistani cricketing history.”
“I would also like to say that I feel very proud that at the twilight of my career finally I managed to win the World Cup,” he said, before being escorted by his aides back inside his residence.
