RAWALPINDI – Dejected and desperate inmates of Adiala Jail are pinning their hopes on Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar to bring back Nawaz Sharif to the prison.

It is following a written plea to the CJP that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (R) Safdar will be sent back to Adiala Jail, sources inside the jail told The Dependent. According to sources, the prison staff has written the letter on behalf of the inmates.

“We were famous, were in news and people started to know more about us – care more about us – when they were here. Nawaz Sharif is Adiala’s life,” the letter read.

“But people no longer care about us. We have become just like any other prison. Please bring Nawaz back home,” it added.

While talking to The Dependent the prison staff revealed said that when the Sharifs were in the jail, people used to come visit and there was an atmosphere of festivity around the clock.

“But now the roads around the jail are empty like PML-N offices these days,” a security officer said.

“Only sadness and loneliness lives in those quarters now. So please, please return us our happiness, the joy, the people, the identity of our jail,” the inmates’ letter implores the chief justice.

Sources close to the CJP reveal that it is his sensitive heart that has convinced him to address the plight of the lonely souls inside Adiala Jail.

“There is nothing personal here. The CJP cannot see people sad and unhappy as he believes that they are already facing countless hardships already. He will do anything for the inmates’ happiness,” the source said.

The sources further added that after the hearing on November 6, the Adiala Jail staff has even started putting up ‘Welcome Back Guys’ and ‘We Miss You’ banners to welcome the Sharif family back.
