Will decide whether Izhaan Pakistani or Indian after finding out he’s batsman or bowler: Shoaib Malik

DUBAI – After star cricketer Shoaib Malik and tennis star Sania Mirza revealed the name of their newly born baby boy, Malik went on to clarify that their son Izhaan Mirza-Malik would not have Pakistani or Indian nationality, as things stand.

“The issue over my child’s nationality is not important. But he will not be Pakistani or Indian as things stand,” Malik said while talking to The Dependent.

The all-rounder further revealed that the couple would decide the nationality based on his skill-set.

“Izhaan would be a Pakistani or Indian, based on whether he’s more or a batsman or a bowler,” Malik confirmed. “If he turns out to be a batsman, especially one that can play well in 50 over cricket, then really nobody has any other choice.”

“There are few things Pakistan as a nation needs more than a top quality ODI batsman. And the way the rest of them are, maybe Izhaan and I would be taking care of the middle order together in the 2039 ODI World Cup.”

However, Malik did concede that things could be completely different if Izhaan takes up his mother’s sport and becomes a tennis star.

“Especially if he looks like becoming a top singles player, which neither of two countries has produced.
