ISLAMABAD – Islamabad United owners Ali Naqvi and Amna Naqvi have announced that the franchise will be sponsoring community alarms all across the city of Islamabad to help the local United fans wake up in time for Pakistan Super League matches.
The announcement came ahead of United’s clash with Peshawar Zalmi on Friday, after the PSL stats had depicted United as the least followed team in the PSL, especially during the 9 pm (PST) matches.
The stat had come to the fore after United’s smashing win over the then table toppers Karachi Kings on Sunday, with even Luke Ronchi’s magnificent knock not doing much to attract online attendance from Islamabad.
“We do realise these matches are extremely late night, some would even say early morning,” Amna Naqvi said while talking to The Dependent.
“So we need to make sure we facilitate our fans and help them wake up early morning for the 9 pm matches.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the United-Qalandars thriller, the first PSL match to be decided by the super over, finished after 2 am (PST).
“That’s almost afternoon in the Islamabad time zone. So we’re gutted that so many of our fans missed that wonderful game,” said Ali Naqvi while talking to The Dependent.
“Hopefully the community alarms synchronised with the United schedule will help wake everyone up for the big games ahead.”
