ISLAMABAD – WhatsApp has the government of Pakistan’s back allowing it to retract a message thanks to its latest feature.

With the Facebook-owned messaging app rolling out a feature letting its 1 billion-plus users delete a message for all people within a conversation, a message that was sent to the wrong person or group can now be retracted.

More details can be found on the company’s FAQ page:

‘Deleting messages for everyone allows you to delete specific messages you have sent to either a group or an individual chat. This is particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake.

Messages you successfully delete for everyone will be replaced with “This message was deleted” in your recipients’ chats (*). Similarly, if you see “This message was deleted” in a chat, it means that the sender deleted their message for everyone.’

Sources within the government confirm that Paigham-e-Pakistan (Pakistan’s message) will be recalled using the WhatsApp feature.

The sole caveat for that is that all conversation participants must have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on their device.

However, the government of Pakistan has vowed to initiate the upgrade on behalf of all groups that mightn’t be best pleased by its message. Most WhatsApp users will agree that this update is long overdue.

Meanwhile, The Dependent can confirm that the text for Paigham-e-Pakistan now reads, “This message was recalled”.
