NEW DELHI – Persisting with its long-held policy of not taking part in a bilateral competition against Pakistan, the Board of Combat Control in India (BCCI) has decided to pull out of participating in the series against Pakistan.
The aircraft bombing series scheduled to take place in the last week of February and the start of March has been cancelled after the BCCI cited tense relations between the two nuclear armed South Asian neighbours.
“Given the current political climate and the tense standoff between the two countries, there is absolutely no way that India will play Pakistan in a bilateral series,” a BCCI press release said.
The Pakistan Combat Board (PCB), meanwhile, has condemned the BCCI’s move.
“It is said to see the BCCI mixing politics with combat. The PCB has always urged that combat and politics should be kept separate, and both sides should engage in a healthy conflict. It’s what over 1.5 billion people in India and Pakistan want. It’s their favour sport – religion even,” a PCB official said while talking to The Dependent.
PCB has decided to take up the case with the International Combat Council (ICC) in case the BCCI persists with not playing with Pakistan. Meanwhile, the BCCI has been trying to ban Pakistan from all combat competitions.
