theLONDON – All captains of the participating teams met with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace before the opening ceremony of the ongoing World Cup. All the other men were suited and booted, but Pakistan’s captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed stood out.

The man wore a white shalwar kameez with a green blazer with a star brooch (the team’s official jacket) instead. Now that’s what we’re talking about. Pakistan represent!

The Pakistani captain was deservedly lauded for ditching British colonial attire for Central Asian imperial apparel, which has a baggage of Arab, Persian and Turkic usurpation.

Talking to The Dependent after his meeting with the queen, Sarfaraz said his decision to wear the shalwar kameez was rooted in his anti-colonial fight.

“Yes, I did want to deliver the anti-colonial, anti-imperial message to the queen. Yes, that is precisely what I wanted to do there. I am glad that people have identified that and giving me due credit for it,” the Pakistan captain said.

“Also, it’s important to note that while ditching the British colonial attire, I embraced the Muslim imperial attire. Because of course that’s the kind of imperialism that we Pakistanis love,” he added.
