LAHORE – Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar said that he created Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams fund to create awareness about the fact that a dam fund should not be created for the purpose of building dams.

While addressing the audience at a festival on the subject of unqualified people doing things they should not and then being invited to festivals to speak about them, the former CJP said that he was humbled by just how much awareness his fund had created.

“I personally thought one day, hey, why don’t I make a dam? That’s when I thought what I need to do to make a dam. At that moment I also thought what I should not do to make a dam. That’s when it struck me that I should not crowdsource, I should not make a dam fund to make a dam,” he told the audience.

“In that regard, the dam fund has created awareness that dam funds cannot make dams. It’s something I realised the moment I had the desire to create a dam, but I wanted to give proof to those who want to make dams – or, indeed, those who do not want to make them,” he added.

The former CJP further added that the dam fund created awareness in other realms as well.

“About how judiciary isn’t doing the job it is supposed to, how senior judges take populised routes and overreach into political domains, and more importantly about people trying to do jobs they have to qualification or jurisdiction for – which I believe is why you’ve invited me to speak here,” he said.
