DEHRADUN – After the Uttarakhand Bharatya Janta Party (BJP) planned to celebrate Shaurya Diwas, anniversary of the surgical strike on September 29, in all 13 districts by organizing two mega events, in Dehradun and Haldwani, the Indian government has also decided to celebrate their team’s victory in last year’s Champions Trophy.

“Just like in 2016 a special squad of the army had carried out the surgical strike in Kashmir on 29 September which was tagged as the most daring action taken by the NDA government, in 2017 a special squad of cricketers had carried out surgical strikes in England, which was tagged as the most daring action taken by the BCCI and resulted in India winning the Champions Trophy,” an official government press release states.

Sharing details about the two events, BJP state president Ajay Bhatt said, “the events, both surgical strikes outside Indian territory, are massive achievements of Rising India.”

The opposition, however, calls the celebration a political move. “BJP forgot to celebrate the surgical strike in 2017, just like the soldiers had forgot to carry them out in 2016,” Congress leader Suryakant Dasmana said while talking to The Dependent.
