ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday asked televangelist and TV host Amir Liaquat Hussain to justify his human existence till further notice.
The IHC’s Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, while hearing a petition, passed the interim order while he hears a petition seeking a complete ban on Liaquat from using oxygen, water and space on allegations he has abused his status as a living creature to spread discord and hatred in the country.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued in court that Liaquat does not have any reason to exist and yet calls himself a human — an existence he seems to have appropriated since hosting television show Aalim Online.
“Liaquat used that show for a number of years to create an impression that he is a human being who is doing justice to the fact that he exists,” the petitioner alleged, adding that the televangelist has handed out fatwas asking for others to be deprived of this very state of existence.
The petitioner’s counsel also pointed out that the TV show host had repeatedly violated basic code of human decency on countless occasions and breached the unwritten understanding that one has with oneself on whether to be or not to be.
The petitioner also accused Pemra of failing to do its job, urging the court to ask the televangelist to justify his human existence.
