Confusion and concern about the Rs300 million KP government doled to the Dar-ul-Uloom Haqqania was put to rest on Saturday when chairman of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, told reporters that an effective mechanism had been worked out by his government. “There is nothing to be concerned about here,” he said, speaking to the press at his Bani Gala residence.
“We have clearly written on the envelope in which the cash has been given, the message ‘Don’t train terrorists with this.’” “At first, it was thought that we would say these words when handing over the envelope, but then we thought that perhaps merely saying this won’t be enough,” he explained. “It was suggested in the core committee that we should also write the message down.
It was first written with a Piano Sportball-point pen. But party leader Asad Omar suggested that we should use a thick black marker instead.” “When the envelope was prepared,” he continued, “a five-member committee was tasked to wake up Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, who then went over to the seminary in Akora Khattak to deliver the envelope.”
“I also directed him to tell the madrassa authorities that they should not train any terrorists, specially the sort that target members of the ANP,” he said, “who were targeted relentlessly during the 2013 elections that we won in the province.”
