LAHORE – Ousted opening batsman Sharjeel Khan who was awarded a five-year ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)-appointed Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday over the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing case, said that the verdict is the latest in a line of conspiracies against opening batsmen in Pakistan.

Talking to The Dependent Sharjeel protested against the latest coup against Pakistani openers.

“It is no coincidence that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and I both got prominence at the same time,” he said. “This is my crime. I am being punished for brining joy and prosperity to the people of Pakistan.”

Sharjeel further added that it is the people of Pakistan, and not any PCB unit, who made him what he is.

“They should decide if they support the changes I brought to the nation, or if they are with the enemies of Pakistan.”

The left-handed opening batsman further said that no opener had been allowed to complete the five-year tenure in Pakistan since Saeed Anwar and Aamir Sohail.

“This is the main reason behind instability in Pakistan,” Sharjeel added. “The establishment and these coups need to be stopped to safeguard opening batting in Pakistan.”
