In an emergency press conference internet search engine behemoth admitted that its servers were down and that its engineering team were working non-stop to restore services.
“We have been having an exceptional overload since last afternoon from Pakistan and Pakistani expatriates in other countries, all of them googling the word ‘infructuous’,” said Sundar Pichai, Google CEO.
“We were still able to hold out till some time,” he continued. “Sites like dictionary.com, merriam-webster.com, definition-of.com, english-for-students.com and meaning.com were not so lucky and went out of service in barely the first hour of the incident.”
“This incident will now forever be known as the infructioning.May we all remember this day and vow for it to never be repeated,” said a visibly dishevelled Pachai.
“Hey…..what does it mean, by the way,” he asked an aide, standing next to him.
“Let me read this…from a cache of the erstwhile english-for-students.com : Infructuous is a word that is not used very often by native speakers of English, it is however quite popular among newspaper reporters in India,” he said, reading out a note. “the word means unprofitable, unfruitful and ineffective.”
“Well, whatever. I wish an easier word had been used.”
This design is spectacular! You certainly know how to keep a reader amused.
