The La Nina effect

The demand for antibiotic syrups for children and cough syrup has increased these days. The main reason being the “La Nina” effect. La Nina is a meteorological word meaning “cool effect” and it causes prolonged winter weather and below zero temperatures. This effect will last until the end of March in Pakistan.
Unfortunately, this unique effect has not been highlighted and people are unaware of this prolonged winter with below zero temperatures. And since mid-Feb is the start of spring and warmer weather, people have started dressing up for warmer weather which is causing people flu, cough and chest infection.
The ministry of health and the media should highlight safety precautions that should be taken by people, especially the most vulnerable, the old and the children during this prolonged winter because prevention is better then cure.
