LAHORE - Pakistan released one of its longest-serving Indian prisoners on Thursday after more than 23 years behind bars, accepting a call for his freedom on humanitarian grounds, officials said.

LHAORE - Mehmood, 45, a prisoner at Camp Jail died in jail on Wednesday under circumstances yet to be established. Mehmood was a resident of Pakpattan. Police were said to have arrested him over a dacoity case. Mehmood's heirs alleged Camp Jail police officials tortured him to death. The body was shifted to the city morgue for autopsy.

Camp Jail prisoner dies mysteriously
LAHORE - A prisoner detained in the Camp Jail died mysteriously on Tuesday. The doctors at the Jinnah Hospital say that he died of cardiac arrest. Muhammad Fayaz (39), a Shadbagh resident, was sent to the Camp Jail on charges of owing illegal drugs some months ago.
Yesterday, Fayaz fell unconscious and was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Fayaz's relatives were informed by the police and later the body was given to its heirs after the autopsy.
