Pak-India swap prisoners lists: Pak rejects list

Pakistan and India on Friday simultaneously exchanged annual lists of prisoners in other’s custody in Islamabad and New Delhi.
According to Article (i) of the Agreement on Consular Access signed between Pakistan and India on May 21, 2008, both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody on the first of January and July every year.
According to the list provided by India 470 Pakistani prisoners are languishing in Indian jails out of which 274 are common citizens and 90 are fishermen. While Pakistan rejecting to accept the list said that the count provided by India is wrong and there are 646 Pakistani prisoners in India
While according to list provided by Pakistan to India there are 348 Indian prisoners in Pakistan out of which 94 are fishermen and 274 common citizens.
According to the agreement both sides are also required to provide each other information on the arrest of and consular access to prisoners within 90 days of an arrest.

  2. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Ministry of Interior has the list of Pakistani prisoners as furnished by the Government of India on 1st July, 2011 then why is not being publicized in the daily newspapers. Is it a classified document?
