ISLAMABAD – After winning the 2018 Ballon d’Or, Croatia and Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric held a meeting with the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday to formally join Pakistan’s ruling party.
The PTI leadership hailed the end of muk muka (bargain) between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo that lasted for the last decade in which either of these two players won the prestigious title of the best football player in the world, and lauded Modric as a ‘true Insafian’.
Leaders of the ruling party expressed sheer excitement for the Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder, lauding his win as a part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s 105-day action plan.
“We are pleased to learn that the bargain between Ronaldo and Messi has ended after 10 years – the same time it took to end the bargain between PML-N and PPP,” Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry exclaimed. “This was always a part of the PTI’s 105-day action plan,” he added.
However, critics of the PTI maintain that this year’s Ballon D’Or was rigged by invisible forces, demanding a recount. Others call Modric the latest lota (turncoat) to join the PTI after having served with Cristiano Ronaldo for six years at Real Madrid.
“For six years he assisted Ronaldo so many times, and now he is claiming that he has ended the muk muka,” senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal said.
However, Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari lamented those who were criticising Modric’s surprise win, and called the selection procedure free and fair. “This has been the freest and fairest Ballon d’Or selection in world’s history,” she said.
“Modric is to Ballon D’Or what PTI is to Pakistani politics,” said PM’s assistant on political affairs Naeem-ul-Haque. “The next step is to wait for the initiation of NAB cases against Ronaldo and Messi.
