ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Daniyal Aziz said contempt of court was safer than contempt of, as he broke off mid-sentence while explaining his decision to withdraw his please against being disqualified from holding public office by the Supreme Court of Pakistan after having been found in contempt of court.
Talking exclusively to The Dependent, Aziz said he deserves to be disqualified.
“I am disqualified, anyone who says that I am not should also be held in contempt of court and hence be disqualified,” he said.
“Yes, disqualify me from holding public office – for five years, fifty years I don’t care – but please don’t disqualify me from life,” he added.
Aziz, who the apex court had held in contempt on June 28, rendering him disqualified from contesting elections for a period of five years under Article 63(1)(g) of the Constitution, there are more important things than contesting elections.
“Breathing for instance, eating, drinking, sleeping – all basic acts for human survival,” he said. “This is what I’ve been telling everyone that contempt of court is safer than contempt,” he added pausing mid-sentence and hanging up the phone.
