ISLAMABAD: A 16-point code of conduct for foreign observers and international media representatives covering the upcoming general elections was published by the Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday.
Violation of rules may lead to a cancellation of granted permissions.
The rules state that it is necessary to obtain affidavits to cover the elections.
“Observers shall respect the sovereignty of Pakistan as well as fundamental rights and freedom of its people,” it reads.
“Political impartiality shall be maintained by observers and media at all costs while observing the election and shall not exhibit any bias or preference with regard to political parties and candidates as well as any issue related to the process of election,” it adds.
Inclusion of personal opinions in official reports is prohibited but making personal comments on the elections are allowed.
