LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz has hit back at criticism against her for owning over 1,500 kanals of land, by saying that those suggesting that agricultural land is the same as property are coming from a point of privilege.
“I have nothing to say to those privileged arm-chair critics who think they know what agricultural land is except that they should talk when they have ploughed kanals’ worth of fields like I have,” Maryam said while talking exclusively to The Dependent.
The PML-N leader said that not only has she spend decades of her life ploughing fields, she has often done so with bare hands.
“Sometimes I plough with a tractor, and sometimes I just use my hands,” she said. “How else do you think I have accumulated assets totalling Rs845,953,559, which have increased by Rs44,154,464 in the previous financial year alone because of all the agricultural work I’ve done this year.”
Maryam said the fact that her agricultural land holdings have increased in each of the last three years and currently stand at 1,506 kanals, prove that her hard work is increasing every year.
“For those privileged people who still want to criticise me, first learn to live the life of an ordinary farmer,” she maintained.
