DUBAI – Former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Monday stated that former premier Nawaz Sharif should be ‘tried for treason’ and ‘should pay’ for his statements about the Mumbai attacks, in a video message released from the United Arab Emirates.
In the message, he derided Nawaz for his comments, saying that Nawaz should also be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution for the 1999 military coup, Pakistan’s involvement in the US led War on Terror, Balochistan operation and the Lal Masjid operation.
“Nawaz should pay for what he has said and done,” Musharraf said in the video. “He should also pay for the failures of the All Pakistan Muslim League and the arrears of the rent for my Dubai apartment.”
Calling Nawaz a traitor for defaming Pakistan on the world stage, Musharraf also wanted the former premier tried for developments on social media.
“My social media numbers have stalled. The Facebook likes just aren’t increasing,” he said in the video. “I don’t care if Facebook algorithms have changed. If it takes paid posts to reach the audience now, that traitor should pay for it and then be tried for treason.”
