The world’s Indian history academia is marveling at what is being called the first-ever Rajput victory in recorded history.

“The delay in the release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali Padmavati movie after the Rajput community of India protested against it, is the first instance of the caste besting its adversary in a conflict,” said Dr Mahinder Chauhan, professor of history at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and a Rajput himself.

“I think this is a historic moment.”

The Rajput kings, lost out in wars first to Mahmud of Ghazni, then to Muhammad Ghauri, then to Alauddin Khilji, then to first Mughal emperor Babur, then to his grandson Akbar, then to the Maratha kings and then to the British. The recent victory against Sanjay Leela Bhansali might also turn out to be temporary but it has raised high the spirits of the Rajput community.

“We are very pleased on this auspicious occasion,” said Ravi Jadeja, head of the Rashtrya Rajputana Andolan. “This has been a long time coming and we will celebrate it like men.”

Jadeja’s festivities turned sour, however, when he entered into a traffic-related scuffle on his way home and was beaten senseless by a motorcyclist of the halwai caste.
