ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday lashed out at a team of professional interior ministers for stopping the ruling party’s leaders from interfering in the makeover of an accountability court to where former Prime Minister Nawaz had appeared for a hearing regarding several cases that had been opened against him.
Speaking to reporters before he departed from the court, Iqbal said courts are “open spaces” whose look the interior minister should be allowed to influence. The minister said it is only professionals – be they interior designers on anyone else – that aren’t team players, and resisted constructive critique, that close the doors to buildings where trials are conducted related to design, artwork and ambiance.
“These buildings should be transparent. I’ve even finalised the glass,” Iqbal told the media.
Iqbal said the design commissioner had decided on the names of personnel who would be allowed to enter the court on Monday. However, he said, the commissioner informed him this morning that “a strong group of interior designers has suddenly appeared and taken over this place”.
Iqbal said he was “forced” to take notice of the situation because “any interior designers are subordinate to the Ministry of Interior and when they are deployed, they are supposed to work under their command”.
Iqbal, whose tantrums were interpreted as petty by leading art analysts, also threatened to resign if his design isn’t accepted and the curtain-sofa combo isn’t that of the interior ministry’s choice.
