The most common method of smoking today is through cigarettes, primarily industrially manufactured but also hand-rolled from loose tobacco and rolling paper. Other smoking implements include pipes, cigars, bidis, hookahs, vaporizers and bongs. Smoking related diseases kill habitual smokers but these diseases may also be contracted by non-smokers.
In Karachi, experts have expressed grave concern over the rising trend of smoking among young people in the country and demanded strict enforcement of the prohibition of smoking laws and protection of non-smokers. Health Ordinance -2002 was promulgated in order to protect the youth from a habit that is detrimental to health.
Over two million youth are addicted to smoking in Karachi while the rest of the youth and children are also at the high risk of drug addiction, as drug trafficking is prevailing in every part of the country. It has even reached our educational institutions.
Nowadays, sheesha which is more dangerous than cigarette is also very common among the young people. I request the youngsters to please stop smoking and save their lives.
Moreover, the government should also take steps towards the control of this dangerous issue.
