Five ordinances presented in PA

Provincial Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar presented five ordinances during the Punjab Assembly sitting on Thursday.

The acting Speaker Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani chaired the sitting and referred the ordinances to the committees concerned for necessary amendments.

The ordinances were the Punjab Prosecution Service (constitution, function and powers), (Amend), Ordinance 2015, The Punjab Regulation Sound System (Amend) Ordinance 2015, The Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (Amend) Ordinance 2015, The Punjab Social Protection Authority (Amend) Ordinance 2015 and The Lahore Arts Council (Amend) Ordinance 2015.

The third sitting of the PA session consisted of presentations about the five ordinances; some emphasis was placed on the low attendance of lawmakers.

The sitting started 69 minutes behind schedule with only 26 legislators i.e. seven per cent of the overall strength, while it was at 98 members i.e. 27 per cent, at the time of adjournment. The Leader of the House and the Opposition Leader did not attend the sitting. Among the parliamentary leaders, only the PPPP and JI leaders were present.

The Minister for Labour and Human Resource presented the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Ordinance 2015, the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Ordinance 2015, the Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers)(Amendment) Ordinance 2015, the Punjab Social Protection Authority Ordinance 2015 and the Lahore Arts Council (Amendment) Ordinance 2015. The quorum was pointed out by a female lawmaker belonging to PML. However, it was found to be complete upon counting.
