Security of polio workers

Seems like being a responsible citizen of the country and working towards the betterment of the people isn’t always the best policy. Polio workers whose lives are threatened by the ‘unknown enemy’ leave their houses every day, scared and harrassed. They live with the fear of not knowing whether they will live through the day or not. Innocent polio volunteers are being targeted and killed in broad daylight and no one wants to take responsibility to protect them. Eradication of polio in Pakistan is extremely vital for the growth of the country and it’s disappointing to see how the government does not take this issue as seriously as it should be taken.

Let alone appreciating the polio workers, the government cannot even ensure their security. The government needs to realise why it was brought into power: to safeguard the lives of the people, a need that isn’t being fulfilled. Government’s highest priority should be the security of the people and especially the polio workers who are working effortlessly to free Pakistan from this dreadful disease. Once accountability in this country is restored, a lot of our problems will get solved.
