13,000 pilgrims airlifted to SArabia so far: PIA

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has so far airlifted 13,000 intending Haj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia by 30 special flights which started on September 9.

So far, three Haj flights from Karachi carried 929, eight flights from Lahore carried 3,958, nine flights from Islamabad carried 4,311, six flights from Peshawar carried 2,213, three flights from Quetta carried 985 and one flight from Multan carried 502 intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, said a PIA spokesman on Sunday.

He said the PIA’s special Haj operation started on Sunday from Multan when the first flight PK-2313 carrying 502 intending pilgrims left at 7:35 pm. PIA’s General Manager Passengers Handling Services Amir Bashir saw off the pilgrims at the MultanAirport.

On the seventh day of its Haj operation, the PIA operated five special flights carrying around 2,000 pilgrims to the holy land. Two flights PK-2611 with 329, and PK-2013 with 329 pilgrims aboard, left Peshawar at 9:20 am and at 2:00 pm respectively, while PK-2213 carrying 500 pilgrims left Lahore at 11:25 am and PK-2713 with 329 left Quetta at 10 pm.

The departure and arrival of all flights was on time, the spokesman added. Today (Monday), a total of six special flights are scheduled to operate; two from Peshawar and one each from Lahore, Quetta, Karachi and Multan.
