Surge in electricity loadshedding has made of lives of citizens miserable as power shortage fall has again mounted to 4563MW due to halt in supply of gas and fuel to power generation units owing to non payment of arrears.
According to National Transmission & Dispatch Company (NTDC) Limited, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) due to delay in payment was supplying 10,000 tonnes of fuel to power plants instead of their need of 38,000 daily.
The NTDC sources said that closure of Qadirpur Gas field has also affected the gas supply to power plants which has reduced electricity generation to 11,940MW against the demand of 16,503.
Due to gap of 4563MW in power generation and demand, urban areas have to face unscheduled loadshedding of 10 hours while rural areas were being provided electricity for only eight to 10 in 24-hour.
Prolonged loadshedding has adversely affected the routine life of citizens besides creating a halt in commercial activities.
