Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas has advised the secretary Home Department to ensure coordination among departments concerned including Sindh police and other law enforcement agencies in connection with the security arrangements for the 65th Independence Day celebrations to be marked across the country on August 14, an official said on Sunday.
Raja Abbas directed that foolproof security arrangements be made to mark the day in an august manner.
The chief secretary emphasized that arrangements be also made to ensure smooth flow of traffic, as well as vigilant monitoring should also be performed.
He also advised divisional and deputy commissioners to coordinate with LEAs in connection with the Independence Day celebrations.
KU, affiliated colleges to remain closed on Aug 14: University of Karachi (KU) and its affiliated colleges will observe holiday on August 14 on account of the Independence Day of Pakistan, a statement said on Sunday.
It said that the ceremony in connection with the day would start at 8:30am in-front of new administration building of KU.
“Vice Chancellor KU Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser will hoist the national flag at 9 am,” the statement added.
International Youth Day marked: The Government of Sindh’s Department of Youth Affairs and Habib University Foundation (HUF) organized an event on Sunday to celebrate the International Youth Day.
The event was hosted under the umbrella of Youth Empowering Spaces (YES) – a programme initiated by the Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with the Habib University Foundation (HUF).
The program aims at facilitating Pakistani youth to aspire for a healthy and productive life.
Being implemented from the platform of Institute of Advancing Careers and Technologies (IACT), Malir, the YES assists youth to explore new avenues to route their talents through nurturing self-awareness, building relationships and acquiring guidance.
Themed around ‘Building a Better World: Partnering with Youth,’ the ceremony included a number of purposeful and interesting activities such as a theatre performance by Humanist Group, speeches and memento distribution.
Meritorious Awards were given to the torchbearers of outstanding performances in various capacities from different cities of Sindh such as Karachi, Larkana, Sukkur and Hyderabad.
The organizers said that around 300 youth from different parts of Sind showed up to celebrate the day, exclusively held to acknowledge youth as an asset to our country.
In his speech the chief guest Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, Minister for Youth Affairs, Government of Sindh, emphasized the importance of youth for a country. Secretary Youth Affairs, Sindh, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, in his address, endorsed the effectiveness of various projects being run by the Youth Affairs Department and HUF collaboratively.
