As many as 30 master trainers belonging to different districts of the country successfully completed ten-day workshop by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and would help drop-out female students to complete their elementary study.
The workshop was arranged to train master-trainers to help female students to complete education through distance-learning system. The trainers were provided advanced teaching skills and know-how to work as master trainers to provide teaching facility to the female students at their door-steps. Millions of students were deprived of acquiring education even at the elementary level due to social and economic barriers. The workshop was part of the on-going efforts of the AIOU to meet the educational requirements of such students.
The programme has been initiated in collaboration with the Plan International under its Girl Power Programme (Pakistan). The concluded session was addressed by Dr. Abdul Hafiz, Dean of Social Sciences and Mir Mukhtiar Hussain Talpur Director, Bureau for University Extension and Special Programmes/Projects (BUESP).
They called for making greater efforts to fight illiteracy at gross-root levels. They assured that the AIOU will provide solid foundation through infrastructural and academic support to educate drop-out girl and middle age female students at the district-level.
About the recent achievements of the AIOU, they said there has been unprecedented growth in the students’ enrolment in the last two years, which showed students’ trust in the universities educational pursuits.
The concluding session was also addressed by the representative of Plan International Zulqarnain Rafiq. He appreciated the AIOU for its strong commitment and vigorous efforts to reach those students who are deprived of basic education.
CTP intensify campaign against one-wheelers: The city traffic police (CTP) have intensified special campaign in Rawalpindi city against one-wheelers.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Superintendent Police (SP) Syed Ishtiaq Shah talking to APP said that strict orders have been issued to all the traffic wardens, Inspectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) of all sectors that strict action should be taken against one-wheelers and no one should be spared and all the youngsters particularly those found moving on the city roads on altered motorcycles especially prepared for one wheeling should be impounded. The CTP had launched special drive against wheeling and made several arrangements to curb the activity aimed at protecting the youngsters as one wheeling is a cause of deaths and severe injuries for the riders said City Traffic Officer (CTO).
Ishtiaq Shah said though, the activity was already being checked by traffic officials deputed on the city roads but special arrangements have been made to control rash and dangerous driving and one wheeling in the city.
He said traffic police officers were directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them. Under special arrangements, traffic officials are being deployed at various points. The traffic officers and circle heads have been directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination. He said one-wheelers are not only playing with their own lives but also a threat for other road users. He said the traffic wardens have been directed to take effective measures in this regard.
He urged the citizens particularly parents that they should come forward and play their role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents.
