The Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh chapter decided on Monday to allow its provincial minister Amir Nawab to continue working on his post, as the party will ‘carry on its struggle to end General Musharraf’s local bodies system and revive commissionerate system in Sindh and other parts of the country.’
This was decided at a consultative meeting of ANP Sindh held at Mardan House and presided over by ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed. During the meeting, the ANP Sindh expressed confidence in the decisions made at the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of the party held in Peshawar. It was decided that the ANP will stand alongside the people of Sindh to resolve their issues.
The leadership asked Sindh Labour Minister Amir Nawab to continue working as the provincial minister. The role of ANP and the people’s struggle against General Musharraf’s local bodies system and abolishment of commissionerate system in the province was also discussed at the meeting.
The ongoing targeted operations against criminal elements in Karachi also came under discussion. It was said that as the search operations have not completed, conclusive remarks cannot be passed. However, the operations should be launched in all ‘no-go areas’ of the city without any discrimination and only Sindhi, Pakhtun and Baloch-majority localities should not be targeted.
At the meeting, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza’s press conference was discussed and it was said that the Supreme Court has started hearing the suo motu case on Karachi situation, and this is not the time to issue statement only, but to collect evidence and present them before the court.
The ANP leadership demanded that the MQM should clarify its position through the media on the allegation by Mirza about killing of Pakhtuns in Karachi. They said that everything Mirza narrated was while holding the Holy Quran in his hand and it is a serious matter.
The ANP leaders demanded that all authorities concerned should investigate the matter and take action according to the evidence provided by Mirza.
The party appealed to its political workers to remain calm to ensure peace in Karachi.
