LONDON – Pakistan’s triumph in the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket World Cup in London has been credited by the winning team members to the lack of legislative tasks given to them.

The four-day tournament which featured lawmakers from Pakistan, England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, saw 25 members of parliament, led by Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, son of Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, representing Pakistan in the event.

After winning the World Cup, Pakistan’s lawmakers thanked the Parliament for giving them all the time they need to practice their cricket skills.

“As you already know the lawmakers aren’t the ones making the laws anyway, but even the work that we are allowed to do by the powers that be we haven’t been doing. Thanks to that we get a lot of free time to play cricket,” Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi said while talking to The Dependent.

“If things remain as they are, we are not only confident of continuing to do well in the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket World Cup but we can also win the ICC World Cup in 2023,” Qureshi added.

Qureshi was confident that many of the current parliamentarians would get into the national cricket side based on their performances in the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket World Cup.

“That’s why their chief selector has resigned and ours won’t,” he said.
