ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON – The Foreign Office has confirmed that it has booked an Airbnb stay for Prime Minister Imran Khan instead of an expensive hotel during his three-day visit to Washington, starting on July 21.
The booking has been made as per PM Khan’s request so as to save money for the national exchequer, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said while addressing a press conference.
“We are in close contact with a listing called White House. As per practice, formal announcements are made once the host has approved the request,” he said.
Once the host, coincidentally the president of the US Donald Trump, approves the request, PM Khan is expected to stay at the White House throughout the duration of his US stay, with the first meeting with his Airbnb host and the leader of the host country scheduled for July 22.
If the booking is confirmed, PM Khan would become the first Pakistani Prime Minister to use Airbnb, short for Air Bed and Breakfast, as the head of government.
“However, we wish to caution against speculation about PM’s visit,” Dr Faisal further added during the press conference.
“It would be great if the media doesn’t actually say that the PM is going to the US till he actually does go and comes back as well,” the Foreign Office spokesperson added.
