LAHORE – Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Moavia Azam has been included in the Punjab Assembly’s committee on sectarianism as an approver, revealed Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti on Wednesday.

Talking exclusively to The Dependent, Bhatti said that Azam’s experience as the leader of the banned terror group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) is invaluable for the aims and ambitions for which the committee had been formed in the Punjab Assembly.

“If you notice the list of committee members formed for this purpose, the name of Muhammad Moavia Azam Tariq stands out,” Bhatti said.

“He has knowledge and experience that almost everyone in the entire country lacks. And we’re looking forward to making the most of that infinite knowhow for the subject,” he added.

The Punjab Assembly secretary further revealed that Azam would technically be serving as an approver for the committee.

“I mean he would tell everyone precisely how sectarianism is spread, including the violence and nonviolent means,” Bhatti said.

“So technically, given his own contributions in spreading what we are looking to counter, Muhammad Moavia Azam Tariq will serve as an approver for this great cause,” he added.

“And in exchange for this the state of Pakistan will continue to help him, his ideology and his groups sustain themselves.”
