LAHORE – 12-year-old fast bowling sensation Amir Wahab, who graduated from the two-week National Cricket Academy (NCA) ‘Under-13 Basic Cricket Coaching Program 2018-19’ earlier this year, has announced his retirement from Test cricket.
The left-arm pacer, who was singled out for praise among the 28 players selected by the National Junior Selection Committee headed by former Test batsman Basit Ali, has said that he wants to focus on white ball cricket.
Amir Wahab, who was the quickest fast bowler among all participants from the 13 regions across the country, said it was a privilege to play the longest, oldest and the most esteemed form of the sport, but it was time for him to dedicate himself entirely to limited-overs cricket.
“I’ve played five-day cricket with the kids in my colony. Sometimes it would extend to seven and even 10 days, depending on school exams, any curfews imposed by parents or if the guy who had the bat, ball and wickets was away,” the 12-year-old prodigy said while talking to The Dependent.
“So I know that Test cricket is the grandest form of cricket, but I also know that I’ve participated in more than my fair share of five-day matches. It’s time for me to give all my time to limited-overs cricket,” he added.
