In the aftermath of the failed no-confidence motion against the Senate chairman, the Federal Bureau of Revenue has issued a reminder to the ruling party and other key state institutions that they must show their CNICs for all purchases above Rs 50,000.

“Presumably, each of the estimated 14 purchases racked many, many times more than that figure, we expect all of that to be registered,” said FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi.

“We don’t want any commercial activity, least of all such massive transactions, to slip by undetected in the black economy,” he continued. “We want all of it to be recorded for taxation purposes.”

“We have to make sure there aren’t any exceptions for anyone,” he added.

Several hours later, the communications director of the FBR requested all of the members of the press who had attended the press conference to not misinterpret what the chairman had said and that he had, in fact, not said what he had said.
