ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday summoned Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) member urban planning and Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI) chairman in a petition challenging the CDA’s operation to demolish 400 kiosks.
The operation in charge of the CDA was also summoned by the IHC bench, which comprised acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
During the course of proceedings, Justice Aamer Farooq said it was a case for the National Accountability Court to check if kiosk licenses were issued illegally by the CDA officials.
Justice Aurangzeb questioned as to whether the kiosks owners had licenses issued by the CDA.
To a court’s query, the CDA’s counsel said the civic body had planned an operation to demolish kiosks in the city in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders.
Justice Aamer Farooq asked whether there was any other issue as the CDA had already removed encroachments from the green belts.
Addressing the CDA’s counsel, the acting chief justice asked whether the civic body would itself inform NAB about the matter or the bench should send the case to it.
The court summoned senior officials of CDA and adjourned the case till July 31.
