Two of the top cable news networks in the US, CNN and FOX News, have been served show cause notices by PEMRA after both failed to provide sufficient coverage of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrival at Washington DC airport on his first visit to the United States of America. Upon arrival, flying on a commercial airline, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, diplomats and an American official received PM Khan.

“We were looking for a smooth and eventless start to this historic, first of its kind, ultra-super-diplomatic visit but unfortunately the biased media here has been busy showing the US president’s racist rally rants instead of the PM Khan’s landmark arrival”, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi commented while exiting the shuttle bus from the plane to the airport carrying the PM and his entourage.

Speaking with The Dependent PEMRA (the media regulatory authority that issued the show cause notices) Chairman Muhammad Saleem, explained that the channels did not satisfactorily fulfill the requirements to be considered non-treasonous. To a question stating the fact that PEMRA had neither the jurisdiction nor the authority to issue a notice to a US television network, a visibly frustrated and annoyed Saleem replied by mimicking the reporter, repeating his question back to him in an inaudible irate manner followed by a walkout from his own office where the interview was taking place
