LAHORE – The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly demanding that Tamgha ‘Aman Ki Asha’ be given to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed in recognition for his work in promoting peace between Pakistan and India.

The resolution, presented by PTI leader Haroon Gill, states that the Punjab Assembly acknowledges the LeT chief’s role in maintaining regional peace between two nuclear armed states perpetually in a state of war between one another.

The resolution further adds that the Assembly acknowledges Saeed’s unbiased role for promoting stability in both India and Pakistan. It maintains that the LeT chief should also be lauded for the eradication of militia in the region, which spearhead cross-border terrorism.

Speaking to The Dependent, PTI lawmaker Haroon Gill said that Hafiz Saeed deserves the ‘Aman Ki Asha’ medal because no one has worked harder to overcome volatility in South Asia.

“After the relations between India and Pakistan reached new lows post the Mumbai attacks, and continued to traverse difficult times, it was only Hafiz Saeed who dared to speak in favour of establishing peace with India,” Gill said.

“At a time when many want to silence him and many want to prevent him from speaking in the country, he relentlessly supported trade with India,” he added.

“For nothing else, Hafiz Saeed deserves the Tamgha ‘Aman Ki Asha’ for his work in identifying and eradicating proscribed militant groups that resurface under different names, often in the shroud of charities and welfare organisations.”
