Meghla Mukti, a Bangladesh model and actress, expressed her discomfort on Thursday at being the target of a lot of Google queries from middle-aged and older Pakistani men.
“Look, I’m not being squeamish or anything, I know the line of work that I entered,” Mukti said, while speaking to The Dependent. “And it’s not even a bad thing that I have to put up with or anything; it’s a good thing that people are looking me up.”
“But when the searchers are so very specific, one can’t help wondering if this is some sort of weird perversion like the ‘yellow fever’ that the older white men in the US have.”
“I don’t know, this is really creepy.” Haroon-ur-Rasheed, noted TV anchor and President of the All Pakistan WhatsApp Uncles Association (APWUA) laughed it off and said that Mukti had nothing to worry about.
“We were just googling the Bangladesh Model (as one does) and an ill-worded query led us to her, A Bangladesh model, which opened up a whole new world for us.”
“Tell her not to worry to much, we have pretty much moved on to Jannatul Ferdous Oishee (Miss Bangladesh 2018) and Isha Yeasmin by now.”
