TEHRAN – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that Pakistan takes inspiration on how to build relations with its own bordering countries from the way neighbours German and Japan have built their ties.
While speaking at an event in Tehran, where he went for a two-day visit, PM Khan said Pakistan’s strong relations with its bordering country Saudi Arabia have historically been influenced by neighbourly relationship exhibited by Germany and Japan.
“Germany and Japan killed millions of their civilians until after the Second World War. Similarly we let Saudi Arabia influence the killings of thousands of civilians in Pakistan,” Khan said.
“Then Germany and Japan decided to have joint industries on their border regions, and now here I am in sitting in the border region that Pakistan shares with Saudi Arabia to implement out joint policy here,” he said during the event in Tehran.
Opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has taken strong exception to PM Khan’s statements in Tehran, with PML-N MNA Khurram Dastagir Khan condemning the prime minister during the National Assembly session on Tuesday.
“It is highly condemnable to call Pakistan and Saudi Arabia two different countries. We are one in heart and soul,” he said.
“The supreme leader of the PML-N Mian Mohammed Nawaz Sharif has done all he could to make Pakistan an extension of al-Saud caliphate. I wish the PM had studied some history along with geography.”
