PORT ELIZABETH – After saying last week that the speed of bowlers was less as compared to the speed of batsmen getting out, hence pinning the blame for the bowlers for the whitewash in the Test series, Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has put further onus on the bowlers to do more ahead of the five match ODI series.

Talking exclusively to The Dependent Sarfaraz said the bowlers have been performing badly for a long time now.

“Our bowlers aren’t taking the responsibility that they need do,” he said. “This can be seen in the number of runs that they are scoring – or aren’t scoring. They just aren’t scoring any runs, which puts pressure on our batsmen to score runs, which as we all know isn’t exactly their strength,” he added.

Sarfaraz said the bowlers would have to step up for Pakistan to have any chance in the ODIs.

“The bowlers need to know that taking wickets isn’t their only job,” he said. “They feel that by not letting the opposition score a lot or runs, or getting them out, they’ve made up for our batsmen’s shortcomings. No! Those shortcomings can only be overcome by scoring the runs on their behalf,” he concluded.
