KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday told his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohammad that he has a knack of borrowing things on all his foreign trips.

Khan, who is on a two-day official visit of Malaysia, told Mohammad following a joint press conference that he takes whatever he can get from the host country.

“Where I can’t borrow money I borrow government models,” a visibly excited Imran Khan told Mahathir Mohammad.

“For instance, in one of my recent trips, China refused to give me money so I borrowed their government’s anti-corruption drive. Similarly I went to Saudi Arabia before that I successfully borrowed money – although I’d really want to implement their government model,” he added.

PM Khan said Pakistan government wants to replicate the Malaysian model and raise the per capita income.

“Let’s begin with this capita first,” the Pakistani premier said pointing to himself. “Imran wants to borrow your GDP, your tourism sector, your neighbourhood, your forces, and this suit of yours.”

Imran Khan then invited Mahathir Mohammad to visit Pakistan on March 23, which was duly accepted.

“You’d be warmly greeted and regularly served chaaye and paapay as part of the government’s austerity drive and my personal hosting ways,” Khan said.

“You could borrow a paapa or two in return.”
