LAHORE – There has been an overwhelming response in terms of name suggestions for the sixth franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) terminated the annual contract of Multan Sultans.
Last week, when the owners of Multan Sultans failed to fulfil their annual financial obligation, the board reverted back all rights of the franchise to itself. “The fourth edition of PSL will go ahead as planned with six teams and the same number of matches. The board shall take complete responsibility of all player and coach contracts. Pending further updates, the team shall be referred to as ‘The Sixth Team’ of PSL,” a press release said.
Now that the sixth team is again up for grabs, people have been recommending all possible names for the franchise. According to a survey conducted by The Dependent¸ a comparatively large number of people have suggested naming the sixth team as ‘Pindi Boys’ owing to their deep affiliation with Rawalpindi.
“Pindi is my favourite city because it is very near to Islamabad, which is our capital. Islamabad is very near to Murree, a hill station, where I spend at least one weekend every year” a local belonging to Lahore commented when asked about his love for Rawalpindi.
Some fans reasoned that Rawalpindi is the most powerful city in the country, partly due to its occupants. “Pindi Boys have excelled in all fields of life in Pakistan and take all big decisions regarding the country’s affairs,” a Rawalpindi resident boasted.
If “Pindi Boys” is the ultimate choice of name for the sixth franchise, it is likely that special training will be given to all players in the training camps of Kakul with special emphasis towards camouflage, insiders told The Dependent.
PCB sources have confirmed that Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed will be the brand ambassador of the Pindi Boyz in PSL 4.
Meanwhile, other franchises up for grabs in future editions include Faisalabad Fascists, Sialkot Stigmas and Hyderabadi Biryani.
