Saying he is deeply sorry about his statements regarding Kashmir, former Pakistan test cricket captain Shahid Afridi has decided to take back his retirement.

“I think given the situation it is the right thing to do, it was an irresponsible thing to say perhaps and has hurt the sentiments of people on both sides of the border. The only thing I can do now apologise. Apologise and take back my retirement, that too” he said speaking to an emergency press conference.

On Tuesday, Afridi had tweeted on the Kashmir issue saying “Don’t give Kashmir to Pakistan, don’t give it to India either. Kashmir should belong to Kashmiris, Kashmir is not even an issue. The world has made it an issue.”

The tweet had resulted in indignation from across the border, with both Indians and Pakistanis outraged at the shocking insinuation that Kashmiris should be allowed to determine their own fate.

“I know this is a sensitive issue, and I believe in humanity, so the only right thing to do at this point is get back to playing cricket on an international level” he went on to say.

“So now if Chairman Ehsan Mani and Chief Selector Inzamam ul Haq could please hurry up, I have amends to make and there are two different World Cups coming up that I should be captaining Pakistan in” he said before ending the presser.
