ABU DHABI – Inspired by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, Pakistan-born Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has decided to prove himself as a ‘responsible Pakistani’ and donate his scintillating ton in Dubai to the fund for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohamand Dams Fund, it has been learnt.
The overseas Pakistani worked hard to score 141 while playing for 396 overs on the field and defy his ‘homeland’ a victory. His innings was acknowledged in the post-match ceremony where he was crowned as the man of the match.
Talking on the occasion, Khawaja said that since he was born in Islamabad, people expect him to behave like an overseas Pakistani and inject dollars in any of the developmental or charity projects in the country every now and then.
He announced that he will be donating his Dubai century in the cause to build dams in Pakistan, stressing that he’ll be damned if he didn’t do anything.
The Aussie opener was of the view that his hard-earned knock, in which he showed sheer patience, would somehow help the Pakistanis to gain motivation for their bumpy ride ahead.
Meanwhile, he appreciated the patriotism of Pakistani bowlers who did not take two reviews which could have ended his stay on the crease, in turn reducing the contribution to the dams fund.
