DUBAI – Veteran player Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf on Sunday was declared the Player of the Tournament midway through the Asia Cup.
The tournament’s organisers came to the conclusion that Musharraf should be given the award before the Asia Cup is concluded because there is no way anyone could top his performance.
The players was at his flamboyant, flashy and showy best on Sunday as Pakistan took on India in the Super Four contest, with the now Player of the Tournament conquering his adversaries with his commanding presence in the Dubai Cricket Stadium.
“It was an emphatic triumph for him and sent the message across to the opposition – that is the Constitution, law, democracy and Parliamentary supremacy – that they are helpless in front of him,” renowned cricket commentator Ramiz Raja noted.
Former Australian batsmen and Islamabad United coach Dean Jones also admired Musharraf’s display.
“It was as authoritative as ever!” Jones said. “Musharraf’s performance said ‘I’m the boss, and there’s nothing you can do about it’” he added.
With such a commanding performance, cricket fans around the world are hoping that after winning the Asia Cup, Musharraf would conquer the World Cup next year as well.
