MIRPUR: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan has called upon UN secretary-general to appoint a special representative on Jammu and Kashmir to find diplomatic ways for ending carnage of Kashmiris and facilitate a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute.
The president said this while addressing the annual meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session in New York late Wednesday, said a message received on Thursday.
The president in his speech made a fervent appeal to the OIC, on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, to use its good offices and urged the United Nations to impress upon India to immediately end human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir.
President Masood Khan, through the OIC forum, also asked the international community to establish a Human Rights Council’s commission of inquiry to investigate the human rights situation in IOK. Moreover, he also asked the UNSC and HRC to ask India to stop demographic changes in the occupied territory, which are in violation of international law and conventions and constitute war crimes.
Masood said that situation in the Indian Occupied Kashmir continues to be grim and gruesome, where the right to self-determination of the Kashmiris continues to be denied and the human rights of the people of the IOK are being trampled by India without accountability.
Earlier this year, he said, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights published a comprehensive report, which lists a long inventory of ghastly and horrendous violations of human rights of the Kashmiri people.
